Definitions

Active video game - a consumer-oriented video game played by physical input.

Measurement Studies - studies and reports about developing ways of measuring outcomes of active video games and virtual reality.

Screenland - the virtual visual spaces and experiences within the glass of phones, tablets, monitors.

Interactive wearable systems (IWS) measure range of motion, posture or usage; and provide auditory, visual or tactile feedback. Posture monitoring is traditionally performed by a therapist. When devices can provide accurate and reliable feedback, IWS opens up the possibility of independent training.

Virtual Reality - a computer-generated environment that provides some form of immersive or augmented sensory experience and a mode of interaction with that environment. Virtual reality ‘suites’ are not typically available to the consumer market.

Virtual Environments - "VE are computer-generated, immersive, interactive simulations". (Levy, C., Dixit, N, Hundersmarck, T. et al., Virtual environments for therapeutic solutions (VETS) mTBI/PTSD Phase II, Gainesville, FL: Department of Veterans Affairs, 2013.)

Robot - Machines are made of mechanical parts and use energy to perform mechanical actions. Electromechanical machines use electrical signals to create mechanical movement. A robot is an electromechanical machine that possesses some intelligence. Sensors make robots aware, to some degree, of themselves and their surroundings, and bestow some degree of autonomy. Smart Toy - "A smart toy is a toy which effectively has its own intelligence by virtue of on-board electronics. These enable it to learn, behave according to pattern, and alter its actions depending upon environmental stimuli. Generally, the smart toy may be controlled by software which is embedded in firmware." Retrieved and condensed from : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_toy on July 7, 2017

Teleoperation: A robot that is operated at a distance, therefore not an autonomous robot.

Veridicality - a characteristic of virtual reality or augmented reality of being able to blend authenticity and realism with control.
